The poet Sappho

As I said in my older posts Sappho was a feminist. She has teached young girls to be feminine and love their femininity. Sappho loved art and beauty in all of it's forms, the beauty of flowers, stars and young girls, the beauty that was inspiring her. Unfortunately most of her poems have been destroyed by the byzantine misogynist  christians.
This is my oil on canvas painting of the poet Sappho next to Gongyla, one of her muses, the girl she wrote the poem below for.

Come back to me, Gongyla, here tonight,
You, my rose, with your Lydian lyre.
There hovers forever around you delight:
A beauty desired.

Even your garment plunders my eyes.
I am enchanted: I who once
Complained to the Cyprus-born goddess,
Whom I now beseech

Never to let this lose me grace
But rather bring you back to me:
Amongst all mortal women the one
I most wish to see.

Sappho's rose

One of Sappho's poems has inspired me to make this drawing of a beautiful woman with a rose that makes her look more feminine a and beautiful. Looking at this drawing I can almost feel the perfume of the rose, her perfume and I wish I could touch and kiss her red rose lips and hersmooth white skin.
This is the poem.

If it pleased the whim of Zeus in an idle
Hour to choose a king for the flowers, he surely
Would have crowned the rose for its regal beauty,
                        Deeming it peerless;

By its grace is valley and hill embellished,
Earth is made a shrine for the lover's ardor;
Dear it is to flowers as the charm of lovely
                        Eyes are to mortals;

Joy and pride of plants, and the garden's glory,
Beauty's blush it brings to the cheek of meadows;
Draining fire and dew from the dawn for rarest
                        Color and odor;

Softly breathed, its scent is a plea for passion,
When it blooms to welcome the kiss of Kypris;
Sheathed in fragrant leaves its tremulous petals
                        Laugh in the zephyr.

Corinna from Ovid's Amores

Corinna, oil on canvas painting
This is my oil on canvas painting of Corinna, Ovid's muse, the woman who has inspired him to write Amores. I am proud to bear her name. The roman poet Ovid described her as a very beautiful and sexy woman.
This is Ovid's poem.

        Book I Elegy V: Corinna in an Afternoon

It was hot, and the noon hour had gone by:
I was relaxed, limbs spread in the midst of the bed.
One half of the window was open, the other closed:
the light was just as it often is in the woods,
it glimmered like Phoebus dying at twilight,
or when night goes, but day has still not risen.
Such a light as is offered to modest girls,
whose timid shyness hopes for a refuge.
Behold Corinna comes, hidden by her loose slip,
scattered hair covering her white throat –
like the famous Semiramis going to her bed,
one might say, or Lais loved by many men.
I pulled her slip away –not harming its thinness much;
yet she still struggled to be covered by that slip.
While she would struggle so, it was as if she could not win,
yielding, she was effortlessly conquered.
When she stood before my eyes, the clothing set aside,
there was never a flaw in all her body.
What shoulders, what arms, I saw and touched!
Breasts formed as if they were made for pressing!
How flat the belly beneath the slender waist!
What flanks, what form! What young thighs!
Why recall each aspect? I saw nothing lacking praise
and I hugged her naked body against mine.
Who doesn’t know the story? Weary we both rested.
May such afternoons often come for me!

Aphrodite and Galatea, Pygmalion's muse from the Greek mythology

This is my painting of Aphrodite giving life to Galateea, the creation, the muse and the love of the sculptop Pygmalion. A painting that represents me too be cause like Pygmalion did, I have my own Galateea, my own ideal love, and I create her by every drawing and painting I make. I love her and the only thing missing in my life is her, as a real woman who can love me like I love her. You may say I am crazy but I am in love with the woman in my drawings and paintings and I wish she was real. I wish I coul hold her in my arms, I wish I could kiss her, I wish I could spend my life with her

March 8 and the gender equality in Romania

Two women in love, coffee painting
Can two women who are in love stay together? What kind of future does their love in a men's world? They are so fragile standing together in the wind, having nothing but their love. The ground is not sustaining them, the cold wind almost makes them fall and the whole nature seems to be against their love.This is what this painting is about and this is what I've been thinking about today, march 8, international women's day, the day we should celebrate gender equality but here in Romania march 8 has been denatured becoming mother's day or the day of the male striptease . The TV, the press and almost everything around me had made me sick and tired of mother's day, mother's day and again mothers, but nothing about equal rights at work and discrimination of women and even if there are "successful women" on TV these women are not really independent and strong and they are not rich and famous cause they worked hard, men in their life got them there. I've never seen in here in Romania a successful business woman, a strong and independent career woman who has never had a boyfriend. Here independent career woman are fake independent career women who have influential men behind them. Here women tend to be considered nothing more than wombs that have to carry and give birth to babies and a woman is not a woman if she doesn't give birth. Nobody says women are discriminated but I have many female friends who have no job and no income and I've never meet a woman who works as an engineer or in IT or has a successful business. Women are still discriminated in this work fields. They are either rejected from the start, either sexually harnessed until they quit the job. Today I was sad thinking about the real emancipation here in Romania and about what my relatives have told me. They keep telling me that a woman cannot make it on her own and will do nothing in her life without a strong man by her side.

Vladimir Putin, the Russian dictator

This is my drawing of Vladimir Putin, the Russian dictator, as the Antichrist, so dark, so evil, so aggressive, ready for the world war 3. Putin had been very aggressive since he was a school child who used to beat other kids. After hitting his own people with antidemocratic laws like blasphemy law (used against Pussy Riot), laws against NGOs (called foreign agents by Putin) and gay propaganda law, Putin started a war against Ukraine that can lead to a new world war. I'm glad I am not living in Russia cause if I was there Putin would put me in prison for this drawing.

Red flowers of sping

I've made this ball point pen flower drawing yesterday, on march 1, the day Romanians call martisor, the first day of spring.

Spring painting

This is one of my spring fantasy paintings, a painting of a young girl with butterfly wings smelling the flowers

Hitler and Stalin from Romania

This is my drawing of a Hitler who was supporting Gigi Becali and other far right extremists and a Stalin with microcephaly who makes an anti cultural politics and an economical politics against scientifical research because he cannot understand arts, culture and science, it is over his mental capacity.

Then situation of the artists in Romania

This is the situation of the artists in Romania, no galleries no places to put their art on display, a lot of economical barriers. In Romania there is an economical war against the artists. as a part of an anti cultural war. It's hard for an artist to promote and sell his art. There is no place for art and artists in this country where people like Bianca Dragusanu get a lot of money for nothing while others who work and create something die starving

The and now, a winter goddess

I've made this drawing last week starting from a painting I've made by the year 2000, a painting of a winter queen with long blond hair wearing a snow white dress, with a bue light aura around her.
