Some pencil portrait drawings

Sad bride

Sad bride, painting
This is my painting of a bride who is sad be cause she had to marry a man she doesn't love. She is looking back at the love she had to leave behind and crying. Unfortunately many women were forced into marriage in the past and even now there are places in this world where women cannot live their lives the way they want to. There were long periods of time when women had no right to decide about their own life and no freedom to choose. They were sold and used like objects or animals, used for procreation and raped by the men they were forced to live their lives with. Some of these brides committed suicide while others lived a life of misery and sadness. I start being sad to when I thing how sad it was the life of a woman in the past.

Sappho and Gongyla

This is my balpoint pen drawing of the poet Sappho and Gongyla, one of her girlfriends.
I have a tempera painting too.

This is the poem Sappho wrote for Gongyla, the poem that inspired me.
Please

Come back to me, Gongyla, here tonight,
You, my rose, with your Lydian lyre.
There hovers forever around you delight:
A beauty desired.

Even your garment plunders my eyes.
I am enchanted: I who once
Complained to the Cyprus-born goddess,
Whom I now beseech

Never to let this lose me grace
But rather bring you back to me:
Amongst all mortal women the one
I most wish to see.

Watching and protecting the Earth

Watching and protecting the Earth, colour pencils and ballpoint pen  drawing with fluorescent rainbow

Mademoiselle Pogany

Mademoiselle Pogany or the portrait of an alien, pencil drawing

Do you know Constantin Brancusi's Mademoiselle Pogany sculptures? I thing their big head and eyes resemble an alien and that's why I've made this pencil portrait drawing of an alien. I don't know if Brancusi has ever seen an alien or the modern images of alien with big head and dark eye were inspired from his sculptures but this similarity cannot be a coincidence

Loneliness and depression, coffee painting

This is my coffee painting of a depressive tree, lonely and depressed like the person who stands under it. This is a tree that tries to keep it's roots in the past being afraid of the future, almost broken by the wind of change that blows, a dark tree, dark like the sadness, a tree with no leafs and heavy branches that go down, a tree that looks like it's crying

Sappho and the girl with the violet tiara, the muse of the poem “No word”

Sappho and the girl with a violet tiara

This is my pencil drawing of Sappho and the girls she wrote the poem “No word” for, a very sad poem about a girl who has to leave the island and Sappho unwillingly This is what happened to many women in the past. They were forced to marry men who they didn’t love and leave the true love behind. Their life was so painful and sad be cause they didn’t have the freedom and the right to choose the person to spend their life with. This happened in Romania too in the past. There is a waterfall in our country where a young bride committed suicide be cause she had to marry a man she didn’t love and there was nothing she could do.

This is the poem I am talking about

I have had not one word from her
Frankly I wish I were dead.
When she left, she wept
a great deal; she said to
me, ``This parting must be
endured, Sappho. I go unwillingly.''
I said, ``Go, and be happy
but remember (you know
well) whom you leave shackled by love
``If you forget me, think
of our gifts to Aphrodite
and all the loveliness that we shared
``all the violet tiaras,
braided rosebuds, dill and
crocus twined around your young neck
``myrrh poured on your head
and on soft mats girls with
all that they most wished for beside them
``while no voices chanted
choruses without ours,
no woodlot bloomed in spring without song...''

See the rainbow in your eyes

The oil on canvas painting above was inspired by these lyrics

See the rainbow in your eyes
Happiness is in your smile
You’re my angel,
Your my angel in the night
See the sunrise everywhere
Hear the rain when you’re not there
And I need your sweet embrace
Everyday in every place

Baby, I’ll never ever want you to leave (leave uhhh)
I’m crazy, without you I’m not able to breath
Touch me, I pray this love isn’t a dream (oh yeah ooh)
Hold me, cause real life is not what it seems
What it seems oohhh

See the rainbow in your eyes
Happiness is in your smile
You’re my angel,
Your my angel in the night
See the sunrise everywhere
Hear the rain when you’re not there
And I need your sweet embrace
Everyday in every place

Baby, don’t you know I have no sleep
I’m crazy, my soul is empty I feel so weak
Touch me,I pray this love isn’t a dream
Hold me, cause real life is not what it seems
