This is my new pencil drawing of the T.A.T.U girls by the time they were singing about the lesbian love. They were just playing the roles of two teenage girls in a butch-femme lesbian relationship.
By that time I didn't like them because they were not real lesbians but now I understand the message of their art, now when Russia has become so conservative and no other "T.A.T.U" is allowed to appear in the Russian culture, since Yelena Mizulina made the gay propaganda law.
I miss the liberal Russia of the 2000's and I hope the new king of religios right russian politics will not spread across the world.
If T.A.T.U girls were singing in today's Russia they might have been accused of gay propaganda, according to Yelena Mizulina's law but by that time there was no gay propaganda law in Russia. By that time Russia was a free democratic country. I miss those times when I was listening to TATU. I was only 15. By that time I liked Lena Katina, she was looking like me. They just played a role and their lesbian relationship was not real but they did it so good, imitating a butch-femme lesbian couple and I wanted to be the femme in that couple, she(Lena's character) was so similar to me, she as like me.
The drawings above are not good at all but they mean something to me and that's why I keep them. I was only 15 when I made them.
I miss TATU and their music, I miss the democracy Russia has lost, I miss that liberal Russian society, Now it all have been replaced by bigotry and hate and I am terribly afraid this type of dictatorial religious right politics will spread across Eastern Europe and not only.
It's terrible what it's happening o human rights worldwide since 2012. 2012 was not the end of the world but might be the beginning of the end.
